How we work

Trimsalon Ody comes to your home, so your dog can stay in its own surroundings. No unfamiliar room, no other dogs waiting, and you are welcome to stay with us if you prefer.

We work at the dog's pace. That means patience, breaks when they are needed, and a conversation about what is possible when part of the groom turns out to be too much. A dog that comes out of the session calm matters more to us than a perfectly sharp finish.

Every dog is different, so every groom is different. Before we start we agree together what your dog needs and what is realistic that day.

Where the name Ody comes from

The salon is named after Odie, the beagle from the Garfield comic strips: the good-natured, endlessly enthusiastic dog who is mostly just happy to be there. That attitude fits the way we want to work with dogs.

In the business name we spell it Ody. The dachshund in our logo is a nod to the dogs we most often have on the table, not to Odie himself.

I was studying Journalism in Utrecht when I decided I would rather work as a dog groomer. My dog at the time, Cooper, was the reason I wanted to do this.

So since 2019 I have been studying for and working as a dog groomer through the HKI.

That gave me the chance to do internships at Chique du Friemel in The Hague and at trimsalon Puikwerk in Sliedrecht. To this day I still happily work one day a week at Puikwerk, alongside Melanie Stam, the groomer I look up to.

We work at the dog's pace, which means we have all the patience they need and can take the time to make the grooming process as pleasant as possible. That philosophy is what I carry into ODY. I come to your home so your dog can stay in its own surroundings, with you there if you would like that.

That way we can all make sure your dog goes into the groom happy and comes out of it happy!

Hallo, allemaal!

I’m Elli, a dog groomer with more than ten years of experience. After becoming a certified dog groomer in California in 2015, I led my own in-home dog grooming business in San Diego for five years, primarily working with large livestock-guardian breeds, doodles, and spitz breeds, as well as older dogs with health issues or special needs. I applied to university to study neuroscience here in the Netherlands in 2020, and once I arrived, I fell in love with this country I now call home! However, leaving my clients behind was still the hardest part of leaving California. I’m forever fortunate to have so many clients who I stay in touch with to this day!

I am thrilled to be working with Trimsalon Ody because we agree that dogs are special members of the family, and their needs matter as much as our own. As an expat, I prefer to think of it as a “language barrier”: it can be difficult for us to understand each other when we don’t communicate in the same language, and while I am learning Dutch with weekly lessons, unfortunately dogs cannot do the same. However, with a bit of patience, gentleness, kindness, and time, this is a gap that can be easily bridged to ensure the dog is comfortable!

At Trimsalon Ody, backed with years of experience, a judgement-free, trust-based approach, and a true love of dogs, the safety and comfort of your dog will always come first. I am proud to serve both The Hague and the central Leiden areas. Contact Juul to discuss an appointment.
